Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - Tank scene

A Mark VII tank was given by the Sultan of Hatay to the Nazi expedition sent to find the Holy Grail in 1938. It was used to defend the Nazi convoy on its way to the Canyon of the Crescent Moon.

On the way to the Grail Temple, there was an ensuing fight on the tank. As Indiana Jones was busy fighting Colonel Ernst Vogel on the top of the tank, his father, Henry and Marcus Brody were making their escape.

Colonel Vogel is swinging with the shovel. Indy ducks but the shovel catches Henry sending him over the side and onto the moving tread.

Indy grabs his whip, knocking Vogel aside.

As Henry speeds toward the front of the tank to certain doom, Indy, with lightning speed, whips out his bullwhip, wrapping the end of the whip around Henry's right ankle.

Henry is bouncing across the treads like a rag-doll. Indy struggles to hold onto the end of the bullwhip.

Hang on, Dad!

Sallah draws his horse next to the treads. He tips his fez to Henry and call out:
Father of Indy - give me your hand!

Sallah manages to hold onto Henry as he brings his horse to a stop just at the cliff's edge.

About the Tank
The tank was built in four months and then flown to Almeria, in southern Spain, aboard a British Belfast plane - one of the largest aircraft in the world. To transport the monster tank from location to location, it was placed on the back of a low loader truck. "We were lucky," said Gibbs. "Shooting went smoothly and the tank only let us down twice. The first time was because the rotor arm in the distributor broke and it took us a day to get a new one from Madrid. The second time, it was so hot that the solder in the oil coolers actually melted and flowed around with the oil into the valves, shattering two of them to pieces. So we had to change one of the engines and that also took one day. I think everyone expected to lose a lot more time, but the tank worked really well."
